When talking about browsing the web, ‘cookies’ are small text files that are stored by computer and phone browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, Opera etc.). They allow websites to store various pieces of data for a user, similar to “memory” for those websites, enabling them to recognise a user and respond appropriately. This site, like many others, uses ‘cookies’ to improve your browsing experience. You can find out a little more about these types of cookies here.

The course ‘cookies’ also refer to the delicious biscuits that are great with a cup of tea. The illustration on the right is by Miguel Fernandez.
